Nitrous oxide sedation for children in the pediatric department
For children undergoing medical treatment where standard techniques are insufficient to reduce anxiety, nitrous oxide sedation offers a safe and effective solution.
A safe and quick method
Nitrous oxide sedation is a mixture of nitrous and oxygen. It is safe and can be specifically adjusted for each child. It acts quickly and wears off shortly after administration, with a minimum oxygen percentage of 50%. A common phenomenon with the use of nitrous oxide sedation is a (positive) change in mood, making children somewhat happy during the procedure. It brings a calming and relaxing feeling and eases the anxiety and tension from before the treatment.
Grodenta's innovative equipment
Our mobile equipment is fully adaptable to the needs of your paediatric department, with options for both wall connections and portable cylinders. We offer custom solutions and actively contribute to the best deployability. With our technology, the oxygen level remains safely under 24%. Children are monitored during the treatment with a pulse oximeter for oxygen saturation and heart rate.
Procedure and experiences of nitrous oxide sedation
The sedation begins with fitting the full-face mask, followed by an acclimatization phase with oxygen. Then, the nitrous oxide is gradually increased until the optimal level for the treatment is reached, after which the child remains sedated throughout the procedure. Finally, the child breathes in pure oxygen for five minutes after the procedure. Each child experiences the sedation differently; some feel sleepy or as if they have dreamed. Most feel relaxed and calm within a few minutes.
